All About The Pillows ...

Hello and welcome back! In my last blog I talked about making pretty beds and layering shams, coverlets and pillows to personalize your bedding.  Now it’s time to move on to sofas .....

As many have asked “Jane, I really need to perk up my room,” I’ve found it very easy to freshen up a room with a piece of artwork, maybe a new side chair and pillows for sure!!!!

For sectional sofas you’ve always got that huge corner to fill.  Put a Euro (28-30”) in the back corner and build out from there.  Make sure that back pillow is NOT the same fabric as your sofa, but a coordinating color or print, and perhaps a larger print because the pillow is so large.

Then place (2) 20” squares on each side of that, maybe the same fabric as your sofa or something that coordinates well with the sofa and the large Euro in the back.

Lastly, in the middle, use another 16-18” square with your favorite fabric, pulling all the colors in the pillows and sofa together.  I often make two more of my favorites (sometimes more) and place them around the sectional or in the corners, depending on how large the furniture piece is.

Remember different patterns are wonderful to work with, just make sure when choosing the pillows or fabric that you are using the same color hues in each so they all tie together.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match your patterns!

Below is a beautiful Marg Carson sectional.  Notice the large euro in the back corner.

Here’s the drapery fabric in the room, and the pillow fabrics up close ...

And a few others I made for the ends of the sofa .... made a pretty pillow out of a sentimental piece of mink.

Here are two separate sectionals that I spruced up at our Sweet Dreams Store in Cornelius.

And here are some ideas of how to place pillows if you don’t have a sectional. Below are some shots of a fun room I recently did for a teenager's room.

With coordinated pillows on her bed; this room turned out to be so colorful!!!!!

My girlfriend in California asked me to help her “freshen up” her living room. Said she really needed some color.  She sent me a swatch of her sofa and chair fabric, we picked out the picture above the sofa for inspiration, and off I went to the fabric store to pull all the colors together.

See how each color in the artwork is also in the print fabric?.  And the binding on the print pillows matches the coral solid.  Notice the green kidney pillow on the printed chair?  She wanted some color in that room and now she’s got it!

And if you’ve got a bench you’d like to soften it up, just a throw and a pillow or two will really help.  Cute, huh?

Well folks, I hope I’ve inspired you to start thinking about freshening up your space this Spring....it’s all about the pillows!!!

Thanks for stopping by.  Until next time ....
